PRIORITIES

As the conservative candidate for Potter County Tax Assessor-Collector, Thomas’ priorities are simple: advocacy, efficiency, and integrity.

Advocacy

Thomas believes the role of the tax assessor-collector is not just to be an administrator, but to be an advocate for every taxpayer in Potter County. As your tax assessor-collector, Thomas will work hard to advocate for taxpayers and lower taxes, including by encouraging the legislature and our local government entities to adopt further property tax relief and deliver meaningful property appraisal reform.

Efficiency

Running an efficient and effective tax assessor’s office is among Thomas’ top priorities as your next tax assessor-collector. Drawing on his experience as a small business owner and non-profit executive, Thomas will work to ensure that every dollar spent in the tax assessor’s office gets taxpayers the most bang for their buck. Thomas will work hard to recruit and retain qualified staff members, reduce wait times at the tax assessor’s office, and seek out ways to improve efficiency using digital platforms.

Integrity

From election integrity to integrity in leadership, Thomas knows that the next tax assessor-collector must be committed to integrity in all aspects of their job. Thomas will work diligently to ensure that the tax assessor-collector’s office is run with integrity and accountability, focusing on delivering for the stakeholders that matter most: the taxpayers.

About Thomas

Thomas Warren is a lifelong resident of Potter County, a fifth-generation Amarilloan, and a strong conservative public servant. As the editor and co-founder of The Amarillo Pioneer, Thomas has turned what started out as a small passion project into one of the most influential conservative news organizations in West Texas. Thomas’ work has become so well-known in conservative circles that his stories have even been shared directly by President Trump and the Trump Campaign. Aside from his work at The Pioneer, Thomas also served as the Director of Lone Star Voice, a statewide non-profit news organization.

Thomas has fought for the West Texas conservative values he holds dearly from a young age. While in high school, Thomas was enlisted as an intern on Gov. Greg Abbott’s first campaign for governor. Later, Thomas got involved with conservative advocacy on a local level. Through his work with groups such as Amarillo Taxpayers PAC and Save Amarillo PAC, Thomas has helped to defeat nearly $1 billion in bonds and property tax increases. Thomas believes taxpayers should be able to keep more of what they earn and, as such, has staunchly opposed raising property taxes for unnecessary purposes. Thomas was proud to be a part of the campaign that defeated a proposed 24 percent property tax increase put forward by the Ginger Nelson-led City Council.

In June 2022, Thomas was elected as the youngest member of the Texas State Republican Executive Committee, where he represents Senate District 31. Thomas was appointed by Chairman Matt Rinaldi to the Local Government and Engagement Committees, seeking ways to engage younger conservatives with the candidates and issues that matter to our communities. Thomas has previously served on the Amarillo Public Library Board, where he was the youngest municipal board appointee in Amarillo history. Thomas was also nominated by Mayor Cole Stanley and the City Council to serve on the Potter County Appraisal District Board for the 2024 term.

Thomas is a graduate of Amarillo College, West Texas A&M University, and Eastern New Mexico University. Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from WTAMU and a master’s degree from ENMU. He is currently enrolled as a part-time student at St. Mary’s University School of Law. Thomas is married to his wife Lauren, a mental health professional and graduate student at the University of Oklahoma. Thomas and Lauren are the proud owners of Sybil, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Thomas is a lifetime NRA member, a lifelong Christian, and an Eagle Scout.
